Berger 168 Grain VLD Hunting 30 Caliber (7.62mm / .308 Diameter)
The Berger 168 Grain VLD (Very Low Drag) Hunting bullet is engineered for extreme long-range hunters who demand match-grade accuracy with devastating terminal performance. Berger's VLD Hunting line features the highest possible ballistic coefficients in their class, delivering flat trajectories and minimal wind drift at distances where other hunting bullets fall short. The secant ogive VLD design was born from competitive shooting and refined for the field—making it the go-to choice for serious hunters who take shots beyond 300 yards.
Key Features
- Secant VLD Ogive: Produces an extremely low drag profile for the flattest possible trajectory and reduced wind drift at extended ranges
- J4 Precision Hunting Jacket: Thinner than target jackets, engineered to penetrate 2–3 inches before initiating rapid expansion, creating a massive wound cavity up to 15 inches
- Match-Grade Accuracy: Built on the same J4 jacket platform used by competitive shooters worldwide—every bullet is held to +/- 0.0003" tolerance
- Boat Tail Base: Reduces base drag for superior ballistic efficiency and consistency at all ranges
- Hollow Point Design: Ensures reliable expansion on game animals while maintaining long-range stability

Good stuff but nodes are hard to find. Very accurate bullet once a node is located.
Good bullet but effort needed to find node(s).

Accurate
I tried this bullet recently in my 300 RUM and found it to be extremely accurate. Pairing it with a 98gr charge of Retumbo it will consistently shoot 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards. I am looking forward to stretching this round out to see what it does at longer distances.
