Description
The one to buy if you are only buying one. It covers the height range that western hunting actually demands — low enough to shoot flat prone off a bench or a road, tall enough to get the muzzle up over sage, snow, or the lip of a ridge without going to a tripod.
The feature that makes it work is easy to miss: Rugged Ridge added an extra detent to the leg angle adjustment on the Gen 3. Leg angle and leg length together set your height, so an additional angle position multiplies the useful range rather than just adding to it. That is how the same two-section leg reaches from seven inches to fourteen.
The head runs on a ball and socket rather than a fixed pivot, giving full 360-degree pan. That matters when an animal moves and you cannot afford to break position to reposition the rifle — you swing the gun, not yourself. The lock lever can be indexed to whatever hand position you prefer, and it carries an internal return-to-center detent so you can find level by feel without taking your eye off the target.
The legs deploy sideways at the push of a button, and Rugged Ridge's claim here is the interesting one: no preloading. Most bipods need you to push forward into the legs to take up slack before the shot, or the rifle tracks unpredictably. Eliminating that removes a step you have to remember under pressure.
Carbon fibre legs with textured twist locks, 6061-T6 aluminium body, heat-treated stainless pivot ball, claw feet as standard. It needs a Picatinny rail on the rifle to mount to.
