Hornady Precision Hunter 6.5 PRC, 143gr ELD-X, 20/Box
ELD-X is the hunting side of the same technology. It carries the Heat Shield tip — a heat-resistant polymer that doesn't soften from aerodynamic friction the way conventional tips do — but the bullet underneath is built to expand across a much wider velocity band than a match bullet ever needs to.
That is the hard problem in long-range hunting ammunition. Most bullets either come apart at close range or fail to open at the low velocities you see past 500 yards. A thick shank and the InterLock ring hold the core to the jacket for penetration up close, while the front end still opens when it arrives slow.
Same 143 grain bullet as the 6.5 Creedmoor load, but the PRC case runs it at 2,960 fps instead of 2,700. That 260 fps extends the range at which the bullet still arrives fast enough to expand properly — which matters more on game than the flatter trajectory does.
