Description
The compact end of the Extreme Pod range, built around prone and bench shooting where you want the rifle low, the setup stiff, and the weight off your pack. Short legs are inherently more rigid than long ones, so a bipod that only has to reach ten inches can be lighter and steadier than one that has to reach twenty-seven — there is no free lunch in the other direction.
It carries the platform features the range is built on. The head is a ball and socket rather than a fixed pivot, so you get a full 360 degrees of pan without breaking your position to move the rifle. The legs deploy sideways on a push button and, per Rugged Ridge, do not need to be preloaded before the shot — which removes a step most bipods make you remember. Leg length adjusts on textured twist locks over telescoping carbon fibre.
Construction is 6061-T6 aluminium with a heat-treated stainless pivot ball and carbon fibre leg tubing, with claw feet fitted as standard and smooth feet available if you shoot mostly off hard flat surfaces.
Worth knowing before you buy: this is the Gen 2. The headline Gen 3 change was an additional detent in the leg angle adjustment, which is what unlocks the taller models' full height range. If you want the widest possible height envelope, look at the Gen 3 models instead. If you shoot prone and want the smallest, lightest thing that will do it, the Gen 2 short is still exactly that.
