Description

A bore guide protects the single most important inch of your barrel, and it is the cheapest insurance in a cleaning kit.

The throat — the short section of unrifled bore just ahead of the chamber — is where accuracy lives and where erosion kills a barrel first. When you push a cleaning rod in from the breech without a guide, the rod is unsupported for several inches and flexes. It rides against the throat and the start of the rifling on every stroke. Once or twice is nothing. Two hundred cleanings over a barrel's life is a measurable amount of wear on the exact surface you cannot afford to lose.

The guide holds the rod centred and straight so it enters the bore without touching anything on the way in. That is the primary job. The second job is containment: it seals the back of the chamber so solvent runs forward down the barrel instead of back into the action, the trigger group, and the bedding — which is where solvent does slow, invisible damage to a rifle.

This one covers the common centrefire range from .25 through .308 calibre, which takes in most of what sits on a precision or hunting rack — .243, 6mm, 6.5, .270, 7mm and .308-bore cartridges.

Check the fit against your action before ordering; bore guides are sized to the receiver as well as the bore, so the calibre range is necessary but not always sufficient.
