ELD Match is Hornady's competition load, and the tip is the whole argument. Hornady's own testing found conventional polymer tips soften and deform from aerodynamic heating in flight — the bullet leaves the muzzle with one BC and arrives with a worse one. The Heat Shield tip uses a heat-resistant polymer that holds its shape downrange, so the round flies to the number printed on the box.
This is the heavy end of the 300 PRC match line. A 225 grain bullet at 2,810 fps with a .391 G7 is about as much bullet as a shoulder-fired rifle sensibly delivers — it is the load that put 300 PRC into ELR competition and military service.
