ELD-X is the hunting side of the same technology. It carries the Heat Shield tip — a heat-resistant polymer that doesn't soften from aerodynamic friction the way conventional tips do — but the bullet underneath is built to expand across a much wider velocity band than a match bullet ever needs to.
That is the hard problem in long-range hunting ammunition. Most bullets either come apart at close range or fail to open at the low velocities you see past 500 yards. A thick shank and the InterLock ring hold the core to the jacket for penetration up close, while the front end still opens when it arrives slow.
175 grains at 2,975 fps with a .347 G7. 7mm PRC is arguably the best-balanced long-range hunting cartridge Hornady has released — close to 300 PRC reach with noticeably less recoil, which matters when the shot is taken from a pack rather than a bench.
