Short actions create a mounting problem that long actions do not: there is simply less receiver to work with, which means less rail, which means fewer places to put your rings. Get it wrong and you end up choosing between correct eye relief and rings that actually land on the rail — particularly with a long scope, or one with a large objective bell that has to clear the barrel.
A one-piece base is the better answer to that problem than a two-piece set. Two separate bases can only be as aligned as the two sets of holes they bolt to, and factory receiver holes are not always in perfect agreement. A single piece of steel machined in one operation puts both ring surfaces in the same plane by definition, so your rings are not fighting each other and putting a bending load into the scope tube. It also gives you continuous rail between the two positions rather than two islands, so ring placement becomes a choice rather than a constraint.
Underneath, an integral recoil lug engages the receiver so recoil forces go into the action instead of shearing across the mounting screws. The rail carries a 20 MOA taper, which returns elevation travel to the scope for dialing distance rather than spending it holding zero.
Cut from one billet of steel to Mil-Std 1913 dimensions, contoured to the receiver, with scalloped sides so the rail stays clear of loading and extraction. This is the Remington 700 short action version — it will not fit a long action receiver.
