This is one of the scopes the Nightforce reputation was actually built on. It predates the ATACR and the NX8, it was designed for military and competition shooters who needed a lot of magnification range and absolute mechanical repeatability, and it is still in the catalogue because it kept doing that job while newer designs arrived around it.
The smaller of the two objectives in this pair, and that is a deliberate feature rather than a lesser version. A narrower objective bell means lower rings, a lower line of sight, and fewer mounting headaches on rifles with tall bolt handles, iron sights, or limited rail space. If your rifle has been fighting you about ring height, this is the answer to that problem.
The reticle sits in the second focal plane, which on a scope of this era and intent is the expected arrangement: elevation gets dialed on the turret, and the reticle serves as a clean, constant aiming reference. The ZeroStop turret is the mechanism that matters. You set a hard mechanical floor at your zero, dial up for distance, and return by spinning down until it stops — no revolution counting, no reading numbers by feel in the dark, no discovering at the shot that you came back one turn short. That single idea is why these scopes went to war and came home working.
Illumination is analog rather than the digital system on newer Nightforce lines — a simple dial, fewer things to fail, no menu to remember at four in the morning.
