Swarovski ATC 17-40x56 Orange Spotting Scope
Swarovski's compact spotter, and the design decision that defines it is the one-piece body. Where the modular ATX system splits into an eyepiece and an objective you buy separately, the ATC is a sealed unit with the 17-40x eyepiece integrated into the 56mm tube. That costs you flexibility and buys you a scope that weighs about as much as a good pair of binoculars.
The number that matters is the bottom of the zoom range. Seventeen power is low for a spotting scope, and it is deliberate: it gives a genuinely wide field to search with, so you can use this as a scanning instrument rather than only as a confirming one. Most spotters start around 20-25x and are awkward to find anything with. Forty at the top is enough to judge an animal without demanding the aperture a 70x scope would need.
Twenty millimetres of eye relief is the other quietly important figure. It is what makes this usable in glasses and comfortable over a long session — the two things that determine whether a compact scope gets used or gets left behind.
This is the angled version. Angled lets the tripod sit lower and steadier, works far better glassing uphill, and is easier to share between people of different heights. If you mostly need to acquire things fast or glass downhill from a high vantage, look at the straight STC instead.
Orange is the colour option, not a different scope — optically identical to the green.
